Chapter Twelve
LOGAN SPENT the rest of the day dealing with paperwork until his appointment with Jeff. He was tempted to cancel, but he had asked for help and he knew Jeff wouldnât let go until he had seen him. And Logan had to be honest with himself. He might have been able to make the decision not to go back to London, but it didnât mean he was well. Logan knew that it would take many months for him to recover from the assault.
At two thirty he left the cottage and drove the short distance to Jeffâs practice. Apart from his brief stint in hospital, Logan rarely went to the doctorâs. He felt strangely disempowered as he walked into the waiting room and gave his name at reception. The woman smiled at him and asked him to take a seat because Dr. Martin was running a little late. Logan nodded and took a seat in one corner of the waiting room. He picked up one of the magazines from the coffee table in the center of the room. Like a lot of doctorsâ waiting rooms, the selection of magazines was eclectic and bizarre. Logan ended up reading an article on a CEO whoâd given up his million-dollar lifestyle to help children in Africa. It was interesting enough to hold his attention, and initially he didnât hear Jeff call his name. Someone tapped Logan on the arm and he looked up to see Jeffâs resigned expression.
âYouâre welcome to spend the afternoon reading my magazines,â Jeff said. âAlternatively you could actually attend the appointment and discuss what you come for.â
Logan flushed. âSorry.â He followed Jeff into his waiting room. âI didnât hear you call me.â
âI realize that. I called your name three times before I gave up and came into the waiting room. It must have been a good article. What was it about? Donât tell me, Kim Kardashian is pregnant by an alien.â
Logan huffed. âAs if Iâd read an article on Kim Kardashian.â
âHey, Iâve read those articles. Real journalism, that is.â Jeff pointed to the seat next to his desk. âOkay, Dr. Wilde, letâs get down to business. How did it go in London?â
âHow did you know about that?â
Jeff smiled and tapped the side of his nose. âA little birdie told me.â
âSam has a big mouth,â Logan said sourly. âYes, I went to London with Nick. Yes, I went into my room. Yes, it was horrible. What else do you need to know?â
âThat was brave of you. It mustâve been very difficult. Iâm not sure I could have taken a new boyfriend on a job like that.â
âI donât think I would have done it without his help. He kind of forced me into it. He and Patrick,â Logan amended.
Jeff looked seriously at him. âTell me honestly how you feel now.â
âLikeâ¦.â Logan sought to formulate his thoughts. âLike Iâve made a decision. Itâs not the one I ever thought I would make, but itâs the right one for now. I realize I canât go back to working in that house and in that room.
